I became a travel agent many, many moons ago in San Diego, California. One of the airlines I sold a lot of was PSA. Pacific Southwest Airlines was a popular regional carrier. They had colorful planes, with a big smile painted on the nose of the aircraft. The sales reps brought agents great advertising material with pictures of those planes and the slogan “Our Smiles Aren’t Just Painted On”. I’ve kept one of the buttons for more than 30 years. It’s in the top drawer of my desk. When I pull it out, it still makes me grin.
We all have days when a smile doesn’t come quite so easily. We might wake up unhappy, sad or just unsettled for some reason.
One of the most life changing things I’ve ever learned is that our thoughts control our feelings. If we choose our thoughts, consciously choose to think positive thoughts rather than allow ourselves to indulge in negative thoughts, we can be happy.
So H.O.P.E. is my tool. I look for Happy, Optimistic, Possibilities… Everyday. I root around in my mind for a memory that brings me joy. I repeat the word joy, joy, joy over and over. Sometimes I Google “World’s Funniest Videos” to make me laugh. I keep 4 perpetual calendars with inspirational or positive messages nearby to read first thing in the morning, and I think of things I am grateful for in my life. One time Brittany got into my lipstick when she was little. Before I knew it she had drawn all over her face. Her smile WAS painted on and it made me laugh out loud!
If you’re having a good day, jot down some happy thoughts that you can use on a day that isn’t quite as sweet. If this day isn’t one of your best, yet, close your eyes and let your mind take you back to a better one.
Happiness as defined at Vocabulary.com: “Happiness is that feeling that comes over you when you know life is good and you can’t help but smile. It’s the opposite of sadness.”
Let that happy feeling come over you and your smile won’t be painted on either. It will come from a place deep down inside.
I wish you joy, a lot of sunshine and Happy, Optimistic, Possibilities today and Everyday!
Love,
Kellie
